The Ambler Warning A Novel Robert Ludlum Books
I was a Ludlum fan at his peak, 40 years ago. I haven't checked to see the copyright date that would tell when this was printed, but it had to be when Ludlum was just getting started or when he was fading from his glory days. This story is plodding and I easily guessed the "surprise" ending about a third of the way through the book. Frankly, it doesn't even read like Ludlum wrote it. Just some ghost writer plodding along in a mildly interesting story, characters that are cliches or at least barely believable, and a predictable plot. The only saving grace was seeing China from a different perspective.Tags : Amazon.com: The Ambler Warning: A Novel (9780312990695): Robert Ludlum: Books,Robert Ludlum,The Ambler Warning: A Novel,St. Martin's Paperbacks,0312990693,Thrillers - Espionage,Thrillers - General,Escapes,Identity (Psychology),Intelligence officers,Psychiatric hospital patients,Psychological fiction,Suspense fiction,AMERICAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,FICTION Psychological,FICTION Thrillers General,Fiction,Fiction - Psychological Suspense,Fiction - Thriller,Fiction Thrillers Espionage,FictionThrillers - General,General Adult,LUDLUM, ROBERT - PROSE & CRITICISM,MASS MARKET,Modern & contemporary fiction (post c 1945),Psychological,Thrillers General,United States, espionage; espionage fiction; spy thriller; spy mystery; spy books; spy fiction; conspiracy thriller; political crime; government conspiracy; government conspiracy fiction; government conspiracy thriller; conspiracy mystery; mystery books; mystery thriller suspense; mysteries and thrillers; mystery authors; mystery writers; detective novels; mystery detective; books mystery; mystery and thrillers; detective stories; mystery novels; mystery and suspense books,FICTION Psychological,FICTION Thrillers General,Fiction Thrillers Espionage,FictionThrillers - General,Psychological,Thrillers General,Fiction - Psychological Suspense,American Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Ludlum, Robert - Prose & Criticism,Fiction,Modern & contemporary fiction (post c 1945)
The Ambler Warning A Novel Robert Ludlum Books Reviews
My two favorite Ludlum novels (written by Ludlum or others) are The Bourne Identity and The Ambler Warning, in that order.
I've read the novel multiple times and decided to get the abridged audiobook so I could listen to it again during my daily commute.
In general, Ludlum's books are a bit long for me. I was curious to see how this one would hold up to losing some fat. I was very pleased. The story moved along at a better pace than in the original, full-length novel. 99% of the key scenes remained, as well as clues you might not realize are clues the first time you experience the story. One key scene when Ambler recalls a meeting he interrupted wasn't included. Leaving this bit out may cause the listener to wonder how the protagonists made an important connection between other characters in the story.
Scott Sowers' reading pulled me into the story and kept me listening. I almost wanted to keep driving around just to listen a little longer-and that's after I've already read the book more than once!
I consider The Ambler Warning a cross between The Bourne Identity A Novel and the tv series The Prisoner The Complete Series. Highly recommended to fans of spy thrillers.
Written with so many plots you could not come close to be prepared for the surprise ending...A scattering of characters keeps you guessing.
A great read.
This is one of 25 books by Ludlam that I have in my . I have read it more than once and will read it again. It is another thriller that is hard to put down.
Not too much over indulgence in politics just a good old fashioned thriller plausible as ever. Perfect for Christmas reading
Some times over unnessesarily descriptive of scenes which to me was a little distracting
Suspenseful
It moves along well but has an improbable plot which you have to disregard. If you like your thrillers to stand up to scrutiny of logic and commonsense it may not be for you. Some engaging characters but flimsy plot tries your tolerance.
