NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Diana Gabaldon returns to her Outlander universe in “The Space Between,” an irresistible novella brimming with adventure, history, and suspense.
Features a preview of the much-anticipated new Outlander novel, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood!
Joan MacKimmie is on her way to Paris to take up her vocation as a nun. Yet her decision is less a matter of faith than fear, for Joan is plagued by mysterious voices that speak of the future, and by visions that mark those about to die. The sanctuary of the nunnery promises respite from these unwanted visitations . . . or so she prays. Her chaperone is Michael Murray, a young widower who, though he still mourns the death of his wife, finds himself powerfully drawn to his charge. But when the time-traveling Comte St. Germain learns of Joan’s presence in Paris, and of her link to Claire Fraser—La Dame Blanche—Murray is drawn into a battle whose stakes are not merely the life but the very soul of the Scotswoman who, without even trying, has won his heart.

I am 68 years old, soon to be 69 next week. I have read many, many book in my days but, I must say, that in all my years, I have never read novels as good as the OUTLANDER series. I just hope I don,t CROAK before the new novel comes out in June. A little paranormal, great story, great romance, and above all, great historical. For adults only I feel.Product details

The Space Between An Outlander Novella edition by Diana Gabaldon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Waiting for my next book in the "Outlander" Series to arrive, and I found myself missing the people from the books because I have spent so much time with them. I decided to download this novella, thinking it might help fill in the blanks from a very complex story. It did indeed. In fact I have found Diana never let's me down with her storytelling. This shone a light on some newer characters and brought to light important information on some old characters. Definitely worth the read!!
As are all of these novellas on side characters, you have to be a fan of the series to appreciate, and they always begin and end abruptly. I don't think they stand alone, I feel Gabaldon and her agent are going for the quick money grab after finishing these books, and I've read them all. This one features Jamie Fraser's nephew and stepdaughter from Scotland, now in Paris, and reprises some creepy villians from Jamie and Claire's time there. I am so caught up in this saga, that I'm forgiving of faults, but there's a reason for losing a star! Laoghire's daughter is intriguing, and was hoping for more about how the "gift" and the church would work, and then . . . nothing. One very picky note Gabaldon needs to come up with another stomach turning dish aside from eels in garlic sauce. I'm sure someone who does such extensive research can dish up something else.
This fills in details about Laoghaire's daughter Joan who wants to join the convent in France. This is covered only briefly in one of the Outander series books when Jamie is trying to convince Laoghaire to give Joan the dowry money he provided when he separated from her. Through the main series we learned a lot about Marsali but there is very little information about Joan and this book develops her character and the character of Michael, another of Jenny and Ian's children. I love it when DG does this. Not only does it fill in the gaps but it makes all of the characters more real to us.
It was an intriguing side plot with characters who are only slightly mentioned in the Outlander books. In Outlander it was hinted that Joanie was not attractive, When Claire tells her upon meeting her that little Joanie (Marsalli's daughter) looked like her she replies, "Poor thing." In this novella we see her as an attractive woman, and newly widowed Michael is definitely drawn to her.
I'm hoping we get a mention in the next Outlander book that Michael and Joan reconnect. Perhaps when Marsalli brings the children up to the ridge to visit, and to see Germaine, and she'll let us all know.
I've been an avid reader my whole life, but never have I been as entranced by the story of Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon. I've read each of her books at least twice, and find new treasures each time. " The Space Between" fills us in on even more of the richly developed plot lines and details we are all so hungry for!
Diana is a great writer. A little slow in the beginning, but she sure knows how to pack a punch in the last half of the book. Worth the read and you find little more about the Comte and Master Raymond. This would be best read between An Echo In The Bone and Written in my own hearts blood. Highly recommend this book.
A fast-paced story set near the end of "Echo in the Bone," "The Space Between" introduces Michael Murray (one of Jenny and Ian's sons) and Joan (Laoghaire's daughter), and re-introduces two favorites from "Dragonfly in Amber" Master Raymond and the Comte St. Germaine. But wait, how is that possible? you ask. You must read to find out!
Michael and Joan are interesting and engaging characters in their own right (especially Joan!), not just because they are kin to Jaime. My favorite of the novellas so far, and I hope that the seeds planted here bear fruit in the next "Written in my Won Heart's Blood."
