Bird Song Grace Series Book 2 eBook SL Naeole
There was some good stuff in BIRD SONG (Grace #2) with a couple of little supernatural twist that I didn't see coming, but I can't deny I was pretty disappointed with this second book. Too much of the "real" stuff (the human world stuff) was not believable to me and there was way too much of the dramatics for my taste... especially at the end. After all that had gone down in FALLING FROM GRACE and BIRD SONG up to this point, THAT is what is so devastating to Grace?.. really?? THAT confession is what puts the "soul mates" relationship and future at risk?... well, sorry I'm having a rough time accepting a lot of what happens in this book and THAT is not even making the list for me.Being that I already own the rest of the books, I will eventually finish the series, but right now I not super inspired to move forward with the story, so I'll be taking a little break from Grace and her Angles, and reading something else before I crack open BLACK HALO (Grace #3).
Care to find out what put me off so much with this installment??? -Keep reading.

*Completely unrealistic... and that bit having nothing to do with angels.. and everything to do with the author wanting me to believe that somehow after physically attacking another student 'Stacy' (to the point of ambulances and hospitalization) the said attacker 'Erica' is not only NOT suspended, much less expelled (ever heard of zero tolerance?) but is allowed to return to school the next day as if nothing had happened. And that's not the absurd part, well ok that is absurd, just not the height of it. The attacker 'Erica' then somehow sells the Vice Principle on the idea that it's all the hospitalized victim's friend Grace's fault; because the beating was really meant for her and the reason for the beating is that she 'Erica' likes Graces boyfriend and doesn't think freak-Grace is good enough for him. So the VP basically tells Grace this is all her fault and if she doesn't agree to stop seeing her too good looking bf Robert, then Erica is going to sue the school for discrimination, because of course the whole thing is racist... Stacy and Grace are both Koran after all.... I mean WTH!?! We're really supposed to find this believable?.. really?? I know I'm not a teen (haven't been for a while) but I'd like to think that even the most hormonally driven flighty teenager would find that little turn of events hard to swallow. Paranormal and fantasy is great, entertaining and fun to read, but the reality part of the story should at least have its toe in reality. There is no way that in any school today a student who hospitalized another student (especially unprovoked) wouldn't be immediately expelled or at the very least suspend and probably sued by the victim... Not just going unpunished, but justified by the VP that well, she is rich and beautiful and well she had a right because, hey that other girl isn't cute enough to be with that good looking guy and she really meant to hospitalized her anyway, it was just a case of mistaken identity ...what??? My intelligence has been sorely insulted Ms Naeole.

Bird Song Grace Series Book 2 eBook SL Naeole Reviews
There is a part of me that thinks perhaps I am investing too much time in this book. So many pages of reading and yet we don't really move on or do we? There is a beauty in the writing, an almost poetic turn of phrase that keeps us reading, that keeps us patient with the misunderstandings that happen constantly with young egos even in such advanced young adults as the characters in this book represent. All the relationships are so complicated and this is such a clever ploy by the author. Who has time to question the existence of the supernatural beings with warped evil intentions? We are so caught up in the dynamics of personalities that we accept what unfolds. I can't wait for the next book to see how Robert and Grace resolve things, they have to because our connection to them is so strong. We hear the melody of the bird song and it is addictive, and just maybe things are moving, very slowly to be sure but this is perhaps as they tend to do in real life when people are uncertain of outcomes, fear they may be rejected or hurt, or quite simply not sure of what they should be doing. The supernatural element is just icing on the cake to keep the bird singing.
A few weeks ago I blogged about The Premonition Series by Amy A. Bartol & how I sadly finished Incendiary, the last book currently available. While I am trying {really hard} to patiently wait for Amy to finish book #5, I needed something immediate to get my mind off of Evie & Reed's story. You could say I was 'jonesing' for a fix, another young adult, paranormal series to get wrapped up in. Another reason to turn into 'zombie mom.'
I am happy to report, I found that series!
The Grace Series by S.L. Naeole
While nothing will replace the love I have for Amy A. Bartol & The Premonition Series, I will admit, I have now fallen for the beautiful story of Grace & Robert in the Grace Series.
With the Grace Series, I was able to get so wrapped up & involved with the characters that it once again became really hard for me to put my down. S.L. Naeole had me feeling the same raw emotions her characters felt, their love, their joy, their heartbreak, their anger, their jealously ... there were times I felt emotionally drained!
For example, at one point, I was laughing out loud. I looked like a crazy lady in the middle of Toni & Guy.
Superdad found me a couple times in the middle of the night, sitting up straight in bed, reading, my eyes filled with excitement, filled with fear.
I was even standing in the check out line at WalMart, holding my , clinging to every word, praying that the line would move more slowly, oblivious to the world around me, oblivious to the six foot space between me & the guy in front of me.
There were times my heart literally ached for the characters, times I was brought to tears, times I really wanted to yell at them, at S.L. Naeole, at no one / I just wanted to yell /
So, I would say, The Grace Series was my perfect 'fix!'
Unfortunately I finished the Grace Series & unfortunately Amy didn't finish book #5 in that time period. Since I a major book addict, I am already 'jonesing' & looking for my next 'fix' (
