I am very picky about books in general that I choose to read. I am particularly picky about historical fiction. The writer has to know her subject area and I can see right through it if they don't. Pam Jenoff is incredible. She's a brilliant writer, for sure, but she's excellent at getting the historical context RIGHT. I have read a lot of books on World War two and this one felt authentic. You have a young woman, Adelia who has to leave Italy. It's fascist. It's dangerous. She heads to America, falls in love, but the disaster in Italy follows her to America as the whole world is plunged into World War II. It's about what an immigrant's journey looks like. It's about running from war, and yourself, and it's about falling in love. It's about heartbreak, trying to find peace, build again in a disaster, and working as a woman in that time period. It's about what war does to everyone and how the whole world was effected by World War II. And yet, it wasn't depressing. I love to read about history, I love to learn, and I love a little romance in my books. This one was perfect.Tags : The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach: A Novel [Pam Jenoff] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Orphan's TaleSummer 1941

Young Adelia Montforte flees fascist Italy for America,Pam Jenoff,The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach: A Novel,MIRA,0778317544,Literary,Brothers,Historical fiction,Historical fiction.,Italy - History - 1922-1945,London (England) - History,Love stories,Love stories.,Single women,United States - History - 1933-1945,War stories,World War, 1939-1945,World War, 1939-1945;Fiction.,10026703,115026X,20150801,707220,AMERICAN HISTORICAL FICTION,Canada,FICTION Historical General,FICTION Literary,FICTION Romance Historical 20th Century,FICTION Romance Historical General,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction Historical,Fiction-Historical,GENERAL,General Adult,Historical fiction,Historical fiction.,Historical romance,Historical; Romance; Women's Fiction; World War II,Italy - History - 1922-1945,Literary,London (England) - History,Love stories,Love stories.,Romance - Historical - 20th Century,Single women,United States - History - 1933-1945,War stories,Women's Fiction;Historical;Romance;World War Ii,World War, 1939-1945,World War, 1939-1945;Fiction.,FICTION Historical General,FICTION Literary,FICTION Romance Historical 20th Century,FICTION Romance Historical General,Fiction Historical,Romance - Historical - 20th Century,Fiction - Romance,American Historical Fiction,Fiction,Historical romance
The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach A Novel Pam Jenoff 9780778317548 Books Reviews
I recommend this book if you love reading WWII historical fiction, as I do, or even if you do not. It's a wonderful love story that will captivate you from the beginning and will tug at your heart strings. You will not want to put it down. Loved the characters of Adelia, the Connally family, Teddy, and Clair. I was actually expecting a different ending for Adelia but was pleasantly surprised at the way this story ended.
I was, once again, taken on a wonderful, historic journey to a time and places that were so real in the written word by Pam Jenoff! I highly recommend this book and will be reading more of hers in the future!
Another one of Pam Jenoff's great books. I love her style of writing. Great Story.
I really enjoyed this book as I have also enjoyed her other books, I loved everything about this book. If you like books set during World War II you will love it to. 🤗🤗💕
5 out of 5 stars. What can I say? I just have to thank Pam Jenoff for another book to fall in love with. Such a touching story! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this enthralling story of Addie, a Jewish Italian refugee, sent to live with her aunt and uncle in America when it becomes dangerous for her to stay in Italy at the beginning of WWII. She meets the Connally family, her neighbors at the shore every summer, and develops a deep friendship with the 4 Connally brothers. When tragedy strikes the Connally family, she tries to find a new life for herself without them, first in Washington and then in London. Throughout this journey she learns so much about herself, who she is and how strong she is. The author weaves a tale of danger, romance, and the choices we all must make in order to be our happiest, strongest selves.
I am a HUGE fan of Pam's work, and The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach will not disappoint you. Pam's knowledge of Europe/WWII shows in her writing, and she takes you to places and makes you feel as though you are in the middle of the war at times. I loved the relationships between the characters, watching them grow and fall apart and fall back into place. If you ever get the chance to see Pam in person, run - don't walk. She is fabulous in person!
