Semper Mine was such a beautiful story. This is the story of a marine returning home from war with the body of four fallen soldiers from his team. It begins at the funeral of one of the fallen soldiers, with a family who is not only grieving the loss of their son, but also another son who was also injured and has lost a leg. Sawyer, our main hero, who was in charge that fateful day is such a wounded man. He is haunted by the choices he has made and the death he has seen. The sister of the fallen soldier blames him and their interactions together throughout most of the story is explosive. A true hate to love story, this is about forgiveness and moving on. There is so much heart break, but I loved how much time was spent establishing these characters and their connection to each other. They both really grew in this story. I loved that they were both given time to heal, time to sort themselves out and offer themselves and each other forgiveness. It was beautifully written and I fell completely into this story. A must read for Lizzy fans and any military fans too. Beautiful.Product details

I have had this book sitting in my kindle for a while. I can't believe how good the story was. I couldn't put it down. Katya and Sawyer were both broken, brought together by the death of one of her brothers. This book has a HEA and no cliffhanger. There is a second book, Soldier Mine, which is Petr's story. I look forward to reading this. Do yourself a favour and read Semper Mine. You will enjoy it. Thanks Lizzy for a great read ).
This is a contemporary war story. The story begins with the funeral of a soldier and it deals with the feelings of guilt for surviving, and regret for the family that has to deal with the situation. The hero Sawyer is a marine and the heroine Katya is the sister of the dead soldier. They butt heads since the beginning, it is a love and hate situation. Both not dealing with the death and laying blame for the situation. The story has funny moments, touching situations and it pulls at the strings of patriotism. Some sexual situations, but it does no overpowers the story.
I highly enjoyed this book for a number of reasons. First the storyline pulled you in. You want to know what happens to all of these characters and you want to know their stories. Second it's not highly explicit or inappropriate. There is swearing which is to be expected with men in the military. Last the emotions the characters experience are something we all can relate to. Trying to cope with the loss of a loved one meanwhile getting your life back to some semblance of what it used to be. Lizzy Ford touches the complexity of human emotions extremely well. I hope the next book in the series is equally captivating.
I've always like Lizzy Ford's writing, but for some reason this book really touched me. Ford handled the issues of a lost family member, a wounded warrior who lost his twin, and the wounds that are unseen, carried by the commander that lost a friend who was under his command, in a manner that was very believable. Add in a darn good story and enjoyable characters, and you get a 4.5 (rounded to 5) star book. I'm glad I read this and will continue to look for more of Ford's work.

I love Ford's books. Her earlier works have serious editing errors, but they've gotten a lot better. This book caught my attention because of the military theme. My grandfather was a marine and my boyfriend was Air Force. I understand PTSD because people I love have it. It was very well represented in this novel. And it's obvious Ford did her research when it comes to the military. Not just technical stuff, but also the military mindset and personal opinions about certain aspects. The only thing that bugged me in this book is the unnecessary repetition of feelings and thoughts. I understand characters going through the motions and how they feel, but this was a bit redundant. I hope that is addressed in the next book.
Oh my goodness, what a richly layered story that sucked me in from the first page and did not let go! Captain Mathis is a damaged marine, and Katya is the sister of twins who were under his command; only one came home alive. They hate each other on sight, with her slapping him, hard, on their first meeting, at the funeral of her brother. And then the story takes off.
I was captivated from the first page by two equally imperfect people. I couldn't help rooting for them to make it work. What a fulfilling excellent read!
I try not to include spoilers, so I'll end by saying this is one of the most thought-provoking military romances I've read. I'll be reading the other books in this series.
You owe it to yourself to read this book! Highly recommended!
I received this free e-book from and I am voluntarily writing a review. Katya is the sister of twins that end up in a special ops unit in Iraq. One is killed and one comes back without his leg and in a coma. sawyer is the officer in charge of her brothers unit and she blames him for what has happened to her brothers. This is a great read that deals with survivors guilt and the grief and loss of the survivors both family and friends.
